Recognized as the 2018 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and earning three first-team AP All-Pro nominations during his tenure in Indianapolis, Leonard's on-field presence resonated with Colts fans through his tackles, interceptions, forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries. Despite his stellar career, Leonard encountered challenges in recent seasons due to injuries. He underwent multiple surgeries in 2022 to address a nerve issue, limiting his appearances to just three games in the previous season. Although he made a return in 2023, starting in nine out of the ten games, his playing time was restricted primarily to first and second downs.

In 2023, Leonard's defensive field time reduced to nearly 70%, a notable drop from his pre-surgery involvement of over 95% in Colts' defensive snaps. Notably drafted as the No. 36 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft from South Carolina State, Leonard immediately showcased his prowess by setting a Colts record with 163 tackles in his debut season, along with impressive interceptions, forced fumbles, and sacks.
