North Texas School Districts Close in Celebration of Texas Rangers' World Series Win

Arlington, Mansfield, Everman, and Grand Prairie districts shut down for the Rangers' victory parade.

North Texas is basking in the glow of the Texas Rangers' historic World Series victory, and the celebration extends to local students. Arlington, Mansfield, Everman, and Grand Prairie school districts have collectively declared a day off in honor of the Rangers' win, with offices and classes all canceled for Friday.

While Arlington and Mansfield noted that all scheduled sporting events on Friday would proceed as planned, full details from Grand Prairie and Everman were yet to be released. Nevertheless, both districts confirmed that school would be closed on Friday.

The reason for Everman's closure was attributed to "staffing shortages throughout the district." Their statement ended with a hearty, "Congratulations Texas Rangers!!!!"

Dr. Steven Wurtz, interim superintendent of Arlington ISD, expressed the significance of the moment: "This is the first championship win for the Rangers in their history. It's a huge day for sports fans, and we're excited to celebrate with the team and the community." He also acknowledged the potential traffic disruptions due to the Rangers' celebrations, which could impact commutes to and from school.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross confirmed in a postgame interview with WFAA that a Rangers parade would take place in the city on Friday. According to the Rangers' statement, the parade is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m., followed by a public ceremony outside of Globe Life Field.

Arlington ISD reported that the district's marching band received an invitation to perform during the Rangers' festivities. Band students from all six traditional high schools will unite as one band to showcase their talents at the parade.

"We are thrilled about this opportunity for our students," said Wurtz. "They are so talented, and everyone will recognize that after witnessing their performance at the parade."
