With Halloween just around the corner, Strathcona County residents are invited to unleash their creativity in a thrilling pumpkin carving contest hosted by the Rotaract Club.

The Rotaract Club of Strathcona County is gearing up for its inaugural Community Pumpkin Carving Contest, set to take place on Sunday, October 29, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The venue for this ghoulish gathering will be the Wye Community Hall.

Karina Houle, President of the Strathcona County Rotaract Club, emphasized that this family-friendly event is not only a delightful way to celebrate Halloween but also an opportunity to raise awareness about their club and gather funds for future charitable initiatives.

Houle shared her vision, saying, "We're doing it as a fundraiser so we can raise revenue for our future club endeavors. We always like to have some flexibility in our budget to donate to immediate causes."

The club's aim is to infuse the local community with some pre-Halloween excitement, and if the event proves to be a success this year, it might become an annual tradition. Houle hopes for approximately 100 participants, considering that the event can accommodate up to 140 attendees, allowing everyone to enjoy the festivities comfortably.

The contest also serves as a fundraiser, and tickets are available on EventBrite, priced at $23 each. Along with a thrilling 50/50 raffle, all the funds collected will be channeled by the club to support various community causes. In the recent past, the club utilized its funds to assist Ukrainian refugees, contribute to women's shelters, and support those seeking refuge from domestic and sexual violence.

A ticket to this spooktacular event comes with a pumpkin, a set of carving knives, and a spoon. Ticket holders can bring additional tools if they desire, and it's worth noting that it's one ticket per pumpkin, not per person. Carvers will have 90 minutes to unleash their creativity and craft their pumpkin masterpieces.

No contest is complete without thrilling prizes, and Houle revealed that they are in the process of finalizing the rewards. She stated, "We will have five prizes but we are still ironing them out. First place gets to pick first, second place gets to choose from the remaining four, and so on. We’ll have some homemade quilts and items from local businesses that are still being collected."

Houle encourages interested participants to grab their tickets early to assist the club in planning effectively for the number of attendees.

So, gear up for a spooktacular day of pumpkin carving, Halloween fun, and community support.
