Nintendo Switch Achieves Remarkable Milestone with Over 132 Million Units Sold, Driven by Hits like 'Tears of the Kingdom' and 'Pikmin 4
Nintendo's versatile gaming console, the Switch, continues its remarkable journey towards becoming the company's best-selling hardware ever, now surpassing an impressive 132 million units sold. This significant milestone is attributed to strong software sales, particularly for new first-party titles released this year, such as 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' and 'Pikmin 4'.

This revelation stems from Nintendo's second-quarter financial results for Fiscal Year 2024, concluding on September 30. The report confirms that the Switch has officially reached 132.46 million units sold, placing it closer to the pinnacle of Nintendo's best-selling hardware, the Nintendo DS, which boasts 154.02 million units sold. The only console ahead of the DS overall is the PlayStation 2, with approximately 158 million units sold.
With the Switch's continued popularity and Nintendo's statement last year that it's only halfway through the console's lifecycle, it's conceivable that the Switch might eventually match or even surpass the DS' impressive sales figures, provided a new-gen console doesn't disrupt its momentum.
Nintendo's financial report also reveals the impressive performance of 'Tears of the Kingdom,' which has achieved sales of 19.5 million units, and 'Pikmin 4,' which has become the best-selling game in the Pikmin series with 2.61 million units sold.
The report further states, "In addition, 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' released in April, had a positive impact on sales of Mario-related titles," and notes that the total number of million-seller titles during this period has reached 16, including titles from other software publishers.

Unit sales for the entire Switch family, encompassing the OLED model and the Switch Lite, have seen a 2.4 percent year-over-year increase, totaling 6.84 million units. This includes 1.25 million standard Switch units, 4.69 million OLED units, and 0.9 million Switch Lite consoles. Total software sales have also experienced a 1.8 percent year-over-year growth, reaching 97.08 million units. Notably, digital sales account for 50.2 percent of total software sales and have surged by 15.8 percent year-over-year.
Despite rumors of a new-generation console on the horizon, the Nintendo Switch shows no signs of slowing down. The upcoming quarter's sales are expected to receive a significant boost with the release of 'Super Mario Bros. Wonder'.
