South African Foreign Minister Urges Action Against Israel's Actions in Gaza

Naledi Pandor, South Africa's Foreign Minister, has strongly condemned the ongoing crisis in Gaza, calling on the world to intervene and halt what she referred to as "this real crime against humanity" being perpetrated by Israel.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Pandor emphasized the urgent need for influential nations to leverage their power to put an end to the unfolding tragedy in Palestine. South Africa, having severed ties with Israel following its assault on Gaza, is considering referring Israel to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its actions.

Expressing horror at the worsening situation, Pandor stressed the responsibility of influential nations in curbing Israel's actions, drawing parallels between the conditions faced by Palestinians and those endured during apartheid in South Africa.

As casualties continue to rise in Gaza, with over 11,200 reported deaths – including a significant number of children – since Israel's attacks began, Pandor highlighted the disproportionate nature of the conflict. While condemning Hamas' initial attack, she criticized Israel's response, citing the destruction of entire neighborhoods and the severe blockade restricting Gaza's 2.3 million residents from accessing essential supplies like food, fuel, and electricity.

The United Nations reported a staggering 70% displacement rate among Gazans, with limited safe havens amid relentless Israeli airstrikes targeting every corner of the region, including areas designated by Israel as safe for relocation.

Pandor lamented the delayed action by the ICC despite what she described as the mass killing of innocent Palestinians enduring decades of harassment and occupation. She drew parallels between Israel's practices and the apartheid features experienced in South Africa, such as property seizure without compensation and identity documents based on ethnicity.

Highlighting the striking similarities between Israeli actions in Palestine and the apartheid regime, Pandor urged the global community to acknowledge and address this humanitarian crisis.

South Africa has been vocal about the plight of Palestinians and recently withdrew its diplomats from Israel in protest against the ongoing violence, signaling a stance against the atrocities committed in Gaza.

This is a critical moment for influential nations to heed Pandor's call to action and intervene decisively to end the tragic events unfolding in Gaza and prevent further loss of innocent lives in the region.
